Kathryn + Marley’s elopement was everything they hoped it would be, intentional, intimate, and full of meaning. From slow mornings with friends to riverside vows surrounded by mountains and pup-sized bandanas, every part of the weekend felt true to them. It was a celebration grounded in adventure and proof that sometimes, the simplest days are the most unforgettable. Below you’ll see images from their day, as well as links to all resources I have to offer for this area!
St. Mary’s Glacier and the surrounding area in Idaho Springs offer a stunning, natural backdrop for couples looking to elope in the Colorado mountains. But between high altitude, variable weather, and trail access, it’s important to plan with intention.
While most people think of the glacier itself, there are beautiful ceremony spots just off Fall River Road, like the riverside location these two chose. It’s ideal for couples who want the mountain views without the hike in formalwear. The trail to the glacier is moderate and rocky, taking about 45 minutes to an hour depending on conditions. We saved that for the day before, making it a special part of their elopement weekend.
If you’re planning a ceremony on the glacier itself, I recommend a sunrise start for the best chance at privacy, but be aware that even early mornings can draw hikers, especially on holiday weekends.
This area offers more than just the glacier trail. Along Fall River Road, we found a pull-off with a waterfall backdrop, Silver Creek Falls, that made for stunning, moody portraits. Just up the road, Silver Lake offered calm water, evergreen trees, and snowcapped mountains in the distance—an incredibly peaceful and romantic setting for couple photos. You don’t have to hike far to get variety in your day.
